She was a mere human who only wanted to live a peaceful life in the countryside when she found her mate. He was the workaholic Alpha who never indulged himself in worldly pleasures, instead, he derived joy from being powerful. Their destiny intertwined when they both possessed what they yearned for, peace and love. __________________ Before turning the age of 18 years, Alpha Lucas of the Clown Lovers pack claimed to be Aurora's mate and wanted to make her his Luna. Unfortunately, she was accused of infidelity on her wedding day and was rejected by the man who claimed to be her mate and loved her. She had to witness her parents' death and her inheritance snatched away from her. “I, Dominion Lucas, reject you, Madison Aurora as my mate." ……………………………………….. After being sold as a slave, she was bought to be a breeder for the Alpha of the Crescent Red pack, the most influential and greatest pack in the country. Damien, who was the Alpha of the Crescent moon pack, didn't spare Aurora a glance, and she was thrown into the deepest part of the mansion to work with the omegas. Five years later, she had meticulously planned her parent's death, ready to set it in motion. Unfortunately, Alpha Damien, who neglected her for years, suddenly got his interest piqued and won't let her out of his sight. Aurora, who never believed she could be blessed with another mate, decided not to fall in love again. Seeing how the Alpha favored her, she decided to take advantage of his help and avenge her parent's death. The tables turned when she discovered he was her mate, another mate? ………………………………………… “Mate? I have no such thing," she said, denying the spark she felt between her and Damien, even though it was glaring. Her heart warmed at his voice, her face warmed at his touch. He already shattered her resolve, but she vowed not to be weak again. Yet, how could she deny not feeling anything for him when he had such effects on her? But she was afraid, terrified of being betrayed by her mate again! There were rare cases of having two mates, why did the moon goddess bestow such a fate upon her? “You can't deny it forever, and I have no intention of letting you go,” he said, his eyes filled with anger, seeing how she was so disgusted about the idea of having him as her mate. “I have nothing to offer you." She tried convincing him to snap him out of the trance he was in. Only if she knew he was in his right mind. “I only need my mate," saying that he took heavy strides toward the door and slammed it shut after him. After finding the strength to release her painful past, Aurora is confronted by her first mate, Alpha Lucas, who seeks to reclaim her. Faced with a choice, will she return to the one who betrayed her, or remain with Alpha Damien, who offered her nothing but peace? Cover is for author, do not use!

The mangaka/author clearly demonstrates a deep understanding of Robert Johnson and the myths that surround him. However, this is not meant to be a manga biography of Johnson. With so little verifiable information about the blues legend, the book takes numerous creative liberties, which, in my view, occasionally veer into far-fetched territory.

The depictions of 1930s blues clubs and similar settings appear fairly authentic, and compared to many other manga, this book has a distinctly 'western' feel.

The artwork stands out as one of the book's greatest strengths, with meticulous attention to detail. Most of it has a gritty appearance, richly fleshed out with heavy use of cross-hatching, and avoids looking cartoonish in any way. <p>

To give a broad, spoiler-free overview: This manga revolves around RJ, a renowned African Blues musician from Depression-era America, who desires to pursue blues music (for no apparent reason), going so far as to sell his soul to the devil for the ability to play the blues (once again, without much justification). The fantastical elements are intentionally portrayed as potentially mundane misunderstandings, though this isn't entirely convincing since everyone can see his devil-marked hand. (I've looked up RJ's music; it's quite slow-paced, so I have no idea why there are historical claims he played fast enough for two people.)

The story delves into RJ's struggles with racism and his inability to safely defy the orders of the white gangster thief Clyde (of the infamous Bonnie & Clyde duo), leading them on the run from racists attempting to capture them. There are occasional, extremely repetitive images of a man holding a guitar to signify when blues music is being played. That's all.

A visual medium is arguably the worst choice for telling a story about music. The mangaka should have known better. Instead, the music mostly serves as incidental background for the actual plot, which is largely a horror-lite display of racism and immorality within an action/drama that contains very little action or substance. It features a lot of close-ups of faces and filler dialogue meant to build tension, but ultimately, not much happens until a group of minor characters die and/or the plot-protected pair embark on story-long chase sequences interspersed with breaks.

The pacing is exceedingly slow. RJ's introductory premise stretches what should be the first chapter into four chapters filled with vapid, self-indulgent, artistically boring/pointless/repetitive panels that waste everyone's time. Then, in chapter five, we get a main character introduction through a pointless flashforward to the death of a main character betrayed by RJ, removing any suspense about where the story is headed for the only two main characters (hello plot armor). The flashforward adds nothing to demonstrate artistic skill since the ending is entirely predictable for anyone familiar with Bonnie & Clyde.

The mood is bizarrely inconsistent, ranging from extremely pretentious artsiness to childish, tropey slapstick (humorless) comedy (the author is quite skilled at comedy/ecchi, but none of that is present here). Nonetheless, it surprisingly provides an accurate depiction of the ugly consequences of systematic racism in America at the time, especially coming from a modern Japanese individual. Of course, the mangaka is quite talented at drawing art.

I really don't recommend this dull manga. Rating: 3/10 (where 5/10 is average).
