After the sudden death of Goku due to a heart disease, Gohan fell into a deep depression, struggling to cope with the immense loss. But without warning, six months later, powerful androids appeared, mercilessly wiping out the entire Z-Fighters, including Piccolo. With Piccolo gone, the Dragon Balls were no longer an option. Gohan wanted desperately to fight alongside his comrades, but Piccolo held him back, entrusting him to Krillin to ensure his escape.
