Hi, my name is Mia, and I'm the middle child in the Costa family, sandwiched between my older brother Leonardo and the youngest, the striking Amara, who often receives all the attention. As a result, I often feel like the odd one out, or as my mother affectionately (or not) refers to me, the 'ugly duckling.' My recent work shift ended, but my commute home is lengthy since I don't have a car like my siblings. Upon entering the house, I can tell there's a gathering, with cars parked outside. An enraged voice echoes through the air, "You've taken everything I wanted! You betrayed us, and today, you'll pay!" I wonder what misstep my father has made this time to provoke such anger. In the midst of the tension, my father pleads, "Godfather, grant me another opportunity. Offer my lovely daughter as your wife." Oh, no, my father dared to steal from the mighty Riccardo Marina, the godfather of the American mafia, who's only around thirty and known by his last name, Marina. The Marina family holds immense power in our town. Riccardo dismissively replies, "I don't fancy fair-haired beauties like you offer. I prefer women with darker hair. Everyone knows Amara, she's been around too much." Hearing this, I'm torn. Should I remain hidden? After all, not many are aware of my existence at these gatherings, as my family tends to keep me on the sidelines, ashamed of me. My father persists, "I have another daughter with dark hair; perhaps you'd be interested in her instead." Sighing, I can't help but think, this is just typical behavior from them.
