A King of Old

Calan Anatius dreams of a life of adventure, but ever since the passing of his mother his father has insisted upon keeping him away from anything that may bring him to potential hard. Not even allowed to ride a horse, he believes there\'s no end to the boredom of endless studying until a failed assassination attempt upon the Empress of Lythia has two strange men calling at his father\'s keep.

Meanwhilst, in the College of A\'Tyr in the independent northlands, Marissa struggles to keep up with her twin brother, Elan, and the rest of the apprentice healers. The girl dreams of following in her late mother\'s footsteps, but each day she finds herself fumbling the most basic of spells.

It seems as things can\'t get any worse for Marissa until the day a wounded stranger is brought before the college, supposedly having appeared and fallen from the sky. The apprentice shortly finds herself being dragged on a long journey south to a land where an evil older than the ages is beginning to stir.
