Thats was until he heard some of the kids in the playground yelling, so he went to investigate and lo and behold, the girl was getting beaten up by a boy their age.
And so the boy helped the girl get away from the other.
After that small interaction they both became the best of friends along with Miachel Raymonds (even though Shawn hated Miachel and relentlessly tormented him)
