The chemistry between the main character (MC) and the male lead (ML) is captivating; together, they form an incredible power couple. The characters feel well-developed and three-dimensional, making them much more relatable than typical fictional archetypes.
I've managed to read up until Chapter 90 on NovelWW, but unfortunately, it appears that there are no updates beyond that point, as it's been a year since their last upload. I hope the story continues, as I'm eager to see more of these engaging characters and their dynamic relationship.
Big shout-out to the translator for doing an amazing job! Thank you for bringing this story to life – I can thank you for keeping my hair intact, because without discovering this novel, I might have cut it out of boredom, and I'd definitely regret it. 😅
The balance between the romantic elements and the plot is seamless, and I'm giving it a perfect 10! I'm eagerly anticipating more events, especially Yuder's action scenes, and perhaps a little bit of interaction between the main character and the love interest – it's been a delightful read after being away from ORV for almost three years, and it's reignited my passion for novels like this.
In terms of plot complexity, while I haven't seen anything quite like this in the BL genre, perhaps MXTX's works come closest, although they have a distinctively different tone and character dynamics. This story is slower-paced, plot-driven, and leans more towards a serious and less lighthearted atmosphere. I find it soothing and engaging. Among the Korean webnovels I've read, ORV stands out as comparably complex, but with less emphasis on character development. Overall, I believe this work excels in character depth and development, ranking among the top-notch in its category.
The fantastical world presented here is familiar to fans of the genre, yet the author delves deep, breathing life into every aspect. The magic system is complex, with distinct rules and constraints, drawing readers in and sparking curiosity about the hidden mysteries alongside the main character. The political landscape of humans is well-balanced, with factions having realistic motivations and strengths that complement the story without derailing it.
I particularly enjoyed the intrigue and puzzles, witnessing how the characters navigate challenging situations with wit, alliances, and strategic thinking. It's refreshing to see problems resolved through diplomacy rather than brute force. Characters employ legal means and personal connections as effectively as combat or duels, keeping the reader engaged in the unpredictable plot twists.
However, my main criticism lies in the power dynamics. The protagonist (MC) is exceptionally powerful, far ahead of others in awakened abilities and possessing knowledge of crucial future events due to his past role. The love interest (ML), a multi-talented powerhouse with divine powers, swordsmanship, and royal ties, adds another layer of dominance.
Given that the emperor, who happens to be the ML's sibling and head of the strongest organization, can easily address most conflicts, the story feels less compelling when faced with seemingly unsolvable problems.
Despite this issue, the overall narrative is enjoyable and well-crafted. I would still highly recommend it for those who appreciate a well-developed romance set in a captivating world with engaging character interactions.
Spoilers follow:
The MC is bewildered by the kindness and familiarity he receives, which contrasts with his past experiences. The narrative employs an unreliable narrator technique, providing enough clues and other perspectives to piece together the situation.
However, the setting, which combines ABO dynamics, ability awakenings, medieval fantasy, and regression, sometimes stretches credibility. The MC's exceptional status as the sole omega with a lack of detectable pheromones, leading to better treatment, raises questions. It would be interesting to see more exploration of why other omegas face such dire circumstances.
Additionally, the MC's abilities are extraordinary – wielding any weapon, controlling natural elements like making objects weightless or manipulating metal with telekinetic force, and even immunity to alcohol due to its natural composition. His vulnerability to unnatural substances adds an intriguing dynamic.
Despite these confusing aspects of the setting, the story's strong character development and interactions keep me engaged. I look forward to further chapters that might shed light on these mysteries and deepen the understanding of the world.
1. The main character (MC) displays strength and intelligence throughout the story.
2. The time travel aspect is crucial in managing the age difference; it prevents any awkwardness. Initially, the MC was 31 and returned to his 20-year-old self, while the love interest (ML) was 29 and passed away at 31.
3. Although it may seem unusual for the MC to rush to the climax immediately upon returning to his younger self, his actions are justified as the story progresses.
4. The ML stands out as one of the most straightforward and genuine love interests you'll find in the narrative.
5. The MC's personality is unique and offers a fresh perspective.
Remember, the MC's decision-making might seem unconventional, but it adds depth to the plot. Enjoy the engaging tale!
Yuder is strong, powerful, and cold, but he has his vulnerabilities too. This makes Kishiar the perfect complement, like complementary puzzle pieces. As others have pointed out, "Turning" is a novel that excels in world-building, action, and character development, with a focus on camaraderie alongside the central BL romance. Romance might not have been the initial focal point, but their evolving relationship unfolds gradually and steadily. If you're looking for a quick fix, "Turning" might not be your best bet, but for a fantasy tale rich with politics, power struggles, knighthood, and personal growth, it's a fantastic choice. Just be prepared, as the book is lengthy and currently lacks an ending, so pacing yourself might be wise.
This novel is an enjoyable blend of BL (boy-love) and omegaverse, fulfilling many of my expectations. Although some might hope for more explicit content, the focus is on character development and patience, which I believe is crucial. Just a heads up, the story is over 800 chapters long, and we're only around 20% through the English translation – who would have thought I'd find such satisfaction in a lengthy, slow-paced novel? But I genuinely love it, despite its length, tears of joy included 💭💕
Yuder and Kishiar are the perfect match, and their chemistry is adorable 💕💕💕💕.
