Synopsis
Li Yao, a top-tier assassin who had finally hung up her blades to enjoy a peaceful retirement, woke up one morning to find herself transported to an ancient era. To her dismay, she had transmigrated into the body of the local village pariah—a woman infamous for her shrewish temper.
With her hands on her hips, she was known to wail and shriek with such intensity that the villagers dubbed her “The Ghost’s Bane,” and even the stray dogs would take a wide detour to avoid her. She inherited a household with four children, a husband who had long since passed, and, to make matters worse, a brutal famine that left the family penniless.
Fortunately, the village of Hewan sat at the foot of a massive, bountiful mountain. It was teeming with game—pheasants, wild boars, and even predators—alongside medicinal herbs, exotic spices, and crops like corn, sweet potatoes, and regular potatoes.
If you live by the river, you live off the water; if you live by the mountain, you live off the mountain.
Drawing on her elite skills and a wealth of knowledge far ahead of her time, Li Yao quickly transformed from a struggling widow into the richest magnate in Hewan Village. She remained steadfast in her original purpose, focusing on two simple goals:
“Retire, and grow old in peace.”
But as the saying goes, a widow’s doorstep is never free of trouble.
