While selling taiyaki (fish-shaped pastry), I suddenly found myself possessed by the villain from an adult BL novel.

“Hyung… Huaaah!”

“Why is he crying?”

As soon as he was possessed, a child was crying in front of me and wiping away his tears. When suddenly, the handsome main character appeared and punched me in the face without warning.

“Ow.”

“You don’t seem like a real human being, Hyung.”

It turns out, I kidnapped his only younger brother and…tormented the main character in various ways. Seok Nam-woon, that was me, the tr*shy villain who relentlessly chased after the main character until he eventually got buried alive by him!

To avoid the miserable ending of being buried alive, I decided to be on good terms with the two main characters in the novel. Then he planned to enjoy a peaceful life alone.

But why are these Alpha characters sticking to me?

“Prove that you like me.”

“Is it difficult to move? Haha, you look like an omega.”

“What did you just say?”

“You have to stop following me, it’s time to stop.”

Kwon Seo-oh’s expression didn’t look good. Weird. Why is he acting like this?

“You didn’t hang around with me because you liked me either. Stop bothering me and live your life. I’m sorry for bothering you all this time.”

Kwon Seo-oh stared at Nam-woon with a blank face. Then, slowly, he spoke up.

“Hyung, why are you running away?”

“…Running away?”

Namwoon gently reached for the doorknob behind him. But Kwon Seo-oh’s long, thick hand suddenly grasped Namwoon’s hand on the doorknob, and with a click, the door was locked.

Kwon Seo-oh spoke slowly.

“Hyung, I know everything. That you’re in heat for me.”

Kwon Seo-oh’s eyes looked a bit strange.

“W-What are you talking about? No!”

“You always say no.”

His hot and firm hand gripped Namwoon’s arm tightly.

“Today, you have to admit it.”

What’s heat? Ugh!

What was that.... I enjoy the Kanokon series and have a lot of love for it, but for some reason, I don't like the manga. The story after the first four books feels like it's made up of side stories to me. The characters seem more distant and off, as if the ecchi was just thrown in there (the sexual content felt unnecessary). The ending was strange too, everything about it was just so odd. I'm not sure, but I think I'd prefer watching the anime over reading the manga.

(I know the light novel isn't finished yet.)

I'm really disappointed and upset with how it concluded and how it progressed, which is why I give it a 5.

Maybe it's because I genuinely like Kanokon...

    Chapters read: 24/??

    Genre-ratings:
Ecchi - 7/10: Mild nudity. Most of the panels were not ecchi.
Supernatural - 9/10: Yeah, this whole story is heavily focused on youkais, and even the main male character seems to be more than just a human. Mysteries abound as well.
Romance - 7/10: Some great romance scenes, but much of the story revolves around other elements.

    Story - 7/10:
The story started with a surprise and was developed nicely from there, but it felt a bit slow in parts. There are many mysteries introduced but left unresolved for several chapters. Intriguing, though perhaps slightly overdone. However, there is definitely a deep plot with great potential.

    Art - 7/10:
Most artwork was clear, except for some fighting scenes where powers used obscured certain body parts or details.

    Characters - 8/10:
The characters were well-developed, particularly the two main ones. Everyone in the manga has their own attitude, motives, and unique traits. Well done and well-balanced.

    Enjoyment - 7/10:
I enjoyed the manga quite a bit due to the suspense, romantic moments, and action. However, some panels, especially unnecessary ecchi scenes that appeared out of nowhere, disrupted the flow of events.

    Overall - 7/10:
Overall, it's a good read for those who enjoy youkai and supernatural themes, but there are occasional anti-climactic scenes that can be disappointing. It's not consistently great, but the story is still worth checking out.

    STORY: 7/10
A supernatural setting filled with eye-catching visuals and fan service for the readers—yes, please. The story unfolds smoothly from start to finish, and I don’t recall any significant plot holes or loose ends left untied. However, the plot can occasionally become predictable and uneven. It tends to shift between serious, ecchi, and downright silly tones. The drama/action scenes feature a fair amount of plot armor and deus ex machina moments, but not to the extent that it ruins the overall narrative too much. On the plus side, there’s plenty of comedy and ecchi fan service, so each individual element of the manga does its job well.

    ART: 7/10
The artwork is decent for its time. According to MyAnimeList, the manga was published between 2006 and 2010, yet the art style remains consistent throughout the series. While some character designs feel subpar, the female characters are undeniably attractive and visually appealing. The backgrounds are relatively simple, serving only to support the characters in each scene. Despite their simplicity, the action sequences are well-drawn and fluid, enhancing the reading experience.

    CHARACTERS: 7.25/10
This is probably my favorite aspect of the manga. Let’s address the male lead first—he’s quite timid when it comes to interacting with women. Nevertheless, he rises to the occasion when necessary, fighting hard to protect his friends and loved ones. The supporting characters fill their roles competently, contributing to natural interactions with the main cast. They perform admirably whenever called upon, beyond just making appearances. One point of contention lies with Nozomu, a "hybrid" character who straddles the line between being a supporting character and a rival to the main female lead, Chizuru. I struggled to decide which category she truly belongs in.

    ENJOYMENT/OVERALL: 7.5/10
I generally avoid comparing anime adaptations to their manga sources, but without delving into major spoilers or lengthy rants... wow, the anime adaptation really failed to do justice to the manga. Having watched the anime beforehand and then diving straight into the manga, I found my enjoyment per chapter—and overall—increased exponentially. Storylines were expanded, characters were more developed, and the plot direction was handled far better. So, readers, skip the anime if you can. For fellow anime watchers who endured the TV show, picking up this manga will offer a much more satisfying and memorable experience.
