The premise initially intrigued me for both novels, but the execution didn't resonate with me. I think the author could improve their writing, as I found myself indifferent to the supporting characters' perspectives when they switched to the MC's point of view. This technique can work, but it should be reserved for significant characters, not every random character seeking to idolize the MC. In my opinion, excessive perspective shifts are unnecessary; a more effective way would be to convey emotions through the MC's actions and reactions.
Additionally, I skipped over the forum posts at the start of each chapter – they added no value and felt like unnecessary padding. Lastly, my personal pet peeve is encountering sentient systems in stories. I've grown tired of reading about characters with no autonomy, direction, and being controlled by a supposed tool. The repetitive nature of the MC being forced to act by their sentient system becomes monotonous.
In conclusion, due to these factors, I've stopped reading. If none of these issues bother you, feel free to give the novel a try. It's just a matter of personal taste.
Some might criticize a female protagonist for needing protection from a strong male character, but in this case, I find it balanced. The author clearly portrays her weakness without shaming it, and I actually prefer this approach, as it avoids the cliché of a weak character suddenly becoming superhuman in tough situations. The main character's reliance on others for support feels authentic.
Additionally, I love the use of internet chatter within the story. In other novels like "DoD" or "Becoming a Star," these discussions serve as a representation of the reader's perspective, but in this book, they also serve as a source of world-building information. I think this is a clever move, as it shows the limitations of the main character's knowledge, especially given her limited understanding of the Hunter world. Overall, I'm quite engaged with this novel.
My selection of books in this genre has narrowed down, mainly due to language barriers or limited chapter availability. This particular novel stands out among others because, despite its protagonist not being an overpowered figure effortlessly defeating S-class monsters, it maintains strong genre appeal through well-developed supporting characters.
The protagonist's charm, which drew me in and kept me eager to read more, is a blend of wit and authenticity. Her humor feels organic, not forced, contributing significantly to my enjoyment. Although the translation is ongoing, "SSS-Grade Cafe in Front of The Dungeon" has already earned a special place in my favorites list.
The translator deserves commendation for their skill, as the prose flows smoothly and avoids common pitfalls often found in translations, ensuring a pleasant reading experience.
