He chooses to fight the monster first and see what attribute points is he needed first in this early game before putting any his valuable stats points. He already tested how his stamina work by running here, he found out he only maybe can fight with monster at same level 3-4 minute before he will run out of breaths and lose his character full control. He took few minutes to rest, after that he see level 2 one horned rabbit that size like little tiger roaming around and he choose the rabbit as testing mechanism.
