Sect Master’s Immortal Journey

I initially had low expectations for xianxia novels, as they often followed a formula where the main character (MC) shifted from one minor kingdom to a larger one every fifty chapters, joined a more powerful sect, discovered hidden realms, and engaged in repetitive confrontations before leaving their homeland behind. It intrigued me why the MC didn't stay and build their own sect. This particular novel provided an answer - the protagonist displayed pragmatism, knowing when to push forward and when to retreat. Besides cultivation, they took on the responsibilities of leading a sect. I found the pacing engaging and enjoyable. The translation by Max&Koga was commendable, and the premium chapters were reasonably priced, making it a great value for money.

I truly admire the protagonist of this tale, despite some labeling him weak or easy to push around. For those with a discerning mind, it's evident that he makes sound decisions about 90-95% of the time. Currently, he's just beginning to gain traction and assert himself within his cultivation realm. The pace may seem slow, considering his humble origins in a desolate setting, but his progress is significant.

I wholeheartedly recommend this novel, especially for readers who appreciate protagonists who weigh the consequences of their actions carefully. They don't recklessly provoke those stronger than themselves without considering the potential outcomes. Additionally, I appreciate the intermittent narrative jumps, particularly the first one, which was both satisfying and well-executed.

This book is akin to consuming dry pancakes sans syrup; it's enjoyable initially, but the repetitive nature eventually becomes tedious. The narrative style is largely monologues, with the protagonist explaining events aloud and conversations feeling stilted or solely driven by plot progression. It reads more like a checklist of accomplishments rather than an immersive story. The lack of depth in human emotions, with characters reduced to anger or fear, particularly for the main character, is disappointing.

From the onset, the concept suffers from flaws. Without cheat systems or a solid foundation, starting in a barren desert devoid of resources, the protagonist's sect's growth solely relies on plot contrivances and luck. The antagonists inexplicably weaken themselves, and conveniently, resources present themselves. Such a setup doesn't resonate with me.

Despite the translator's commendable speed in releasing chapters, I award the book a 1-star rating due to these shortcomings.

In Chapter 3000, a chance encounter with a mercenary led to a surprising revelation – despite Banxue Sword Master being only a True Immortal-level swordsman, her master, Fairy Feixue, equals the prowess of Meng Zhang. Moreover, Lunjianxuan, a renowned sword school in the Void World, holds great interest for Meng Zhang in forging connections. Although he isn't yet at a level to establish formal ties with Lun Jianxuan, befriending its disciples seems promising. The subtle strategy here lies in highlighting his inclination to fight for a higher-ranked sect due to a newfound admiration for a woman's talent and beauty. While the beginning presents an intriguing premise, the narrative unfortunately loses its way as the story progresses.

The narrative moves swiftly, eschewing琐illary details, making it more akin to a compelling chronicle of a sect's rise rather than the conventional wuxia or xianxia tale that often dwells on the主角's minutiae. The book does an admirable job of avoiding repetitive clichés. However, character development is given less emphasis, with the author striving to strip away extraneous elements. Characters are primarily there to serve the plot's progression, rather than being fully fleshed out.

Despite this aspect, I would argue that this novel stands out as one of the better reads. It provides a refreshing experience, free from annoying stereotypes like overly arrogant protagonists or tedious dialogue. The story takes place in a perilous world where complacency can lead to betrayal, emphasizing the sect's survival and growth over individual prowess.

What sets this novel apart is its focus on collective success rather than personal gain. It offers a unique perspective that other stories could learn from, making it a genuinely enjoyable read,尽管它并非完美无缺。

The protagonist must endure hardships and setbacks before steadily rising through the ranks. Focusing primarily on the sect's growth, the story revolves around the MC's efforts to uplift the organization without relying on cheats or unfair advantages.

Though the MC eventually acquires the ability to divine, this power isn't exploited as a crutch; instead, it's constrained by rules that maintain a sense of realism. The plot armor, or plot device that protects the protagonist from harm, is subtle and well-explained, allowing the narrative to flow naturally. If you enjoy stories centered around sect development and want to avoid overly reliant on overpowered systems, this book would be an excellent recommendation.
