Wen Wan worked herself to death in her past life, only to open her eyes and find herself reborn as the concubine of a great general. Instead of fighting for favor in the household or scheming for power, she vows to live as a proper salted fish—lying flat, eating well, and enjoying three peaceful years while her husband fights far away at the border.
But fate has other plans.
When the old madam dreams that the general will die without leaving an heir, Wen Wan is sent to the frontier with the main wife and fellow concubines to “secure the bloodline.” Along the way, they are ambushed, separated, and rescued by a young officer who is brave, sharp-eyed, and utterly doomed—his hundred men surrounded by an enemy three thousand strong. With a blade at her neck, he offers to kill her swiftly before she can be defiled.
Instead of weeping, Wen Wan thanks him for his kindness… and then shyly suggests she might know a tactic or two. Against all odds, her plan works, and their ragtag unit wins glory. From that moment on, Wen Wan’s “salted fish” life turns upside down, one day she’s writing essays on postnatal care for warhorses and doubling the cavalry, the next she’s teasing the young officer with bold promises.
“Wait for me,” she tells him proudly. “I’ll divorce my husband, take all his money, and keep you like a god, pampering you every single day!”
Only later does Wen Wan realize—her husband, the great general she was so ready to cast aside, and the young officer she was determined to keep… are the very same man.
Now the general, smiling with dangerous amusement, asks her softly,
“So, you were planning to divorce me?”
Wen Wan: “…Can I take that back?”
