I remember this was the first story that got me into web novels to begin with. I remember watching the anime and instantly wanting more so i read the novel but man, i was really hoping for romance at the time. I remember the author seemed to tease it too, it seemed like there were a few ships but they never sailed. I slowly got bored of the repetition and dropped it. Wasn’t a bad read tho, gotta just try it out and see if you’ll like it, just don’t expect an ounce of romance fr.

(Minor spoilers, but mostly kept vague, and the spoilers are obvious things that you knew would happen.) Major Complaint  Many of the big events happen off-screen and the author merely gives you a summary. Did you want to read every moment of Ning Cheng healing Luo Fei's face? From the moment Ning Cheng acquires the potion, when she views her face in the mirror, and then jumps into his arms with joy? Too bad, Ning Cheng merely shows up to see her face was already healed by someone else. Did you want to see him avenge the Ning clan? That was done by an unknown person off-screen. Even Ning Cheng commented on how dissatisfying it was that this big issue couldn't be solved by him. By that point I would say 2/3 of the big moments that could happen, happened off-screen. The other big moment was returning to Earth, with which I was happy. This approach to writing is like editing the goals out of a World Cup match and replacing them with a broadcaster in a studio describing them. Characters Are Very Good  Obviously the best part of this series is the character work. I love anytime differences between characters are pointed out and they actually are genuine. The political scheming of powerful emperors was well done. Some characters progress over hundreds of chapters. In some cases I would say the drastic changes can turn a unique character into a forgettable overlord, but people like character progression. Inconsistent Writing of Otherwise Likable MC  The writing of the MC is not consistent. This isn't that he behaves very different based on his relative power level. In the first 100 chapters he isn't too overbearing, but he stands up for himself, even if it might lead to death. Like the MC in Mortal Immortal, at those points he relies on kind strangers to save his life. Around chapters 450-570 he is groveling and spineless, uttering lines like, "Junior doesn't dare!" I had to skip large parts of 450-570. I couldn't watch him be so pathetic and cowardly. Other than this, he's basically never unlikable. There are a number of times when he groped women, and other worse acts, but I blame the author and genre conventions for this.Poorly Written Overall  Many aspects of this series are poorly written. Often times GooseFive doesn't know how to setup the circumstances he wants, so situations comes off as ridiculous, sometimes laughably so. The rules around his cheats and items are loose and can change at any time. Villains will wildly guess with perfect accuracy who killed a member of their sect. The author will forget about some of his characters then later claim Ning Cheng, who has perfect memory, is the one who forgot them. I still enjoyed 2/3 of my time reading this series.
