When Lu Yi reached marriageable age, she followed her family’s arrangements and chose to marry through a union of convenience.

The Lin family was one of the top elite households in Beijing. Their eldest son, Lin Jinshen, had managed the family’s overseas assets while studying abroad and, after returning, became the new head of the family.

His assistant watched their ever-composed boss grab his coat and stride out of the office. His voice was low and deliberate as he asked, “Where are you?”

“There’s something I’ve never told you,” he said.
