We catch up with bounty hunter Rally Vincent once more, but this time there's a greater focus on the supporting characters. Each chapter ends with a slight cliffhanger, ensuring there are hardly any dull moments. There's just enough momentum to make you repeatedly say, "Dang...I gotta read another chapter..." until you've finished an entire volume. I found myself laughing out loud at some scenes because they were so absurdly ridiculous, a trait Burst carries over from the previous series.
If someone told me that Rally and the rest of the girls would be even cuter this time around, I wouldn't have believed it possible. Kenichi Sonoda somehow managed to bring a fresh glow to our beloved weapon-wielding ladies. Not only that, but I found the overall look and feel of the artwork in Burst more satisfying than in the prequel. Given how much I liked the original artwork, I found Burst a great pleasure to read purely for its improved visuals.
There's also plenty to learn about firearms. Sonoda included pages here and there with interesting facts about guns and ammo types, so while you're having fun, you'll also pick up a thing or two. Uncommon terminology is often explained in the margins for clarity.
As mentioned earlier, I appreciated the additional attention given to Rally's cohorts. Bean Bandit, in particular, gets more spotlight this time, and some of my favorite and most memorable moments revolve around him. His driving and fighting skills, already evident in the original Gunsmith Cats series and Riding Bean, reach new heights in this edition. How many men have you seen catch an RPG with their bare hands WHILE DRIVING!? This guy is a force to be reckoned with, and you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not reading this if you're a fan of over-the-top action.
In essence, if you enjoyed the first publication, Burst isn't likely to disappoint! From my perspective, Sonoda took everything great from his original manga and improved upon it. It's exactly the type of sequel I was hoping for. I liked it just as much, if not more, this time around and consider it a must-read for fans of guns, cars, cute ladies, and top-tier action manga. It serves as a fitting farewell for the Gunsmith Cats crew, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
P.S. If you're planning to watch the 3-episode OVA first, don't let it be your overall impression. It's not bad, but it doesn't compare to the Gunsmith Cats Manga in my opinion. Also, if you're having trouble finding a place to read, feel free to send me a PM, and I'll assist you to the best of my ability.<p>
