Early 19th century, in the fictional kingdom of Norke. Liberal forces, demanding voting rights for citizens and the abolition of class discrimination, dream of revolution. The aristocracy, mired in financial difficulties, struggles to resist the winds of change.
One day, Count Frederick approaches Baron Roel Sutton, the second son of a fallen noble family, and asks him to discreetly ascertain whether Duke Terrence Langdon is funding the liberal movement.
Roel, determined to become a spy for the sake of his family, begins to approach Langdon. He is then hurt to discover that a false rumor about him being a “prӨstⁱtʊtㅌ” has spread throughout the capital. However, Roel quickly decides to use this false rumor to his advantage, planning to seduce Langdon…
Lord Langdon remained seated, but this time he openly scanned me from head to toe.
“If you’re not a prӨstⁱtʊtㅌ, then why are you at my house tonight? Were you planning to seduce me and make off with some of my fortune?”
“No. I lost my ring after dinner…”
“Lies.”
Lord Langdon slowly rose to his feet, unhurried. His silhouette, as he walked towards me, grew larger and larger. His broad shoulders, his height—a full head taller than me—and his solid build presented a physical difference I couldn’t overcome. Lord Langdon tilted his head slightly toward me.
“When you handed me the cigar on the balcony, I touched your fingers. I wanted to know how soft they were.”
Lord Langdon’s large hand gently covered the back of mine.
“But Mr. Sutton’s hands were bare.”
“…”
“I’ll have you escorted back in my carriage.”
He moved away from me.
