Synopsis
[Drop-dead gorgeous female lead + Fierce male competition + Ex-husband’s pursuit of regret (“crematorium”) + Traditional historical estate drama]
Xue Ning’s entire family perished on the battlefield, leaving her to grow up in the Marquis Xuan-yi’s estate, deeply in love with the heir, Su Zhan, with whom she was raised.
Relying on a cup of spiked spring wine, she got her heart’s desire and became his wife.
Later, Su Zhan rose to become the Grand Secretary of the Cabinet, holding absolute power under heaven.
On the surface, they treated each other with mutual respect, and their marriage was once hailed as a rare and beautiful romance in the capital of Dongjing.
Everyone said that for an orphan girl like her to climb the social ladder and marry the Grand Secretary was an immense honor.
Yet only she knew how she had spent countless lonely, desolate nights all by herself.
He had a “white moonlight” in his heart whom he loved but could never have; he had never loved Xue Ning.
In fact, because of her past scheme of offering herself to him, he held nothing but deep disgust for her.
Eventually, he abandoned her in the countryside’s ancestral home for five years.
Letter after letter was sent to the capital, but none ever received a reply.
Helpless and alone, she was caught in a fire set by others, dying with a heart full of resentment.
……
Upon being reborn, the very first thing Xue Ning does is spill the cup of spring wine meant for Su Zhan.
She then sets out to meticulously select a fiancé for herself.
At a family banquet where all the relatives are gathered, Xue Ning proactively takes her fiancé’s arm, walks up to Su Zhan, and says, “Grand Secretary, this is my fiancé. Please remember to promote and guide him more.”
Yet the always cold and self-controlled Grand Secretary goes mad with regret. With bloodshot eyes, he chokes out: “Xue Ning… clearly, I was the one who knew you first.”
