Carol found herself confronted once more by the imposing figure, whose face was always concealed beneath a dragon's head. Each encounter sent shivers down her spine, and now, fear gripped her as he steadily advanced towards her. She swallowed hard, retreating cautiously, trying not to stumble in this intimidating environment. "I-I'm here," she ventured, her voice barely above a whisper. There was no reply from him; he merely turned his head towards the fireplace, where flames shot forth, casting a warm glow without singeing his lips. This silent display left Carol breathless. "What brings you here?" he asked, his tone betraying a hint of annoyance at her presence. "I am your servant, at your command," Carol replied, her words faltering. "And what more do you expect?" he pressed. Her mind went blank, realizing the unspoken agreement between them. "That's all, I suppose," she answered, her voice barely audible. The creature began to approach, and Carol backed up until she was pressed against the cold wall, wishing for some escape. With the revelation of his kind, she knew anything was possible. As their eyes met, his golden gaze held an intensity she couldn't ignore, with flames flickering within them. "You must never leave my sight," he said, placing a gentle hand on her waist. "I desire constant awareness of you – to see, hear, feel, taste, and touch you." Carol nodded slowly, her consent almost unnecessary. This was the path she had chosen – or rather, the only option left. To defy him meant a fate worse than death, her existence erased from the world.

I'm not gonna speak about Carol because let's he honest, she's a generic female lead. I am, however, going to talk about the supporting characters of the book and how well written they all are. Axel is a young man trying to make ends meet while trying to protect his family from his father while his mother refused to leave him because that's what abused women go through, assuming that their abuser loves them when they don't. This series does such a great job at creating and writing characters that won't only captivate you, but will also relate to everyday life. So, give the book a try, and don't be afraid to leave a 5 star review of your own✨
