"Clarissa, the principal wants to see you now. Hurry up and get your ugly ass there," Verona snaps in front of my desk, her eyes red and they look down at me like vengeful snakes. She crosses her arms impatiently, her chest puffs up declaring she's queen bee and above all.
Last time, they gave out some survival supplies to make it seem as if the people on the other side cared. He ignored it that time, Helix's father knew better than to trust the people of the Golden Age. And just as his father predicted, when the people who accepted the kit was well enough, they took them away.
Her gaze touches lightly upon the small, red smear of Jeremy's blood on my white T-shirt. Although she's looking at my clothes rather than my body, I feel really naked. It's like she's seeing right through me, and that she doesn't like what she sees. I don't know what to say. I hate it when it's like this.
A story of someone rising from nothing to the top. It's been done before, but this is a unique take on it. A world full of gods and people able to manipulate reality itself is a daunting one, yet the protagonist is still intent on using what little he has to rise in it. This is not a light story, it is definitely on the darker side; you'll learn that quickly when reading. This world is unforgiving for the protagonist, and we ge tto witness him overcome these obstacles in order to do what the title proclaims: rise from rags to godhood. Check this one out if you like progression fantasy, magical systems, stories with a divinity, and even darkness.
