Tae Seong-jae… he’ll take me home.
One day, ‘I’ transmigrated into the character Seo Seung-won in a BL novel given to me by my little sister without warning. As a result of transmigration, I frequently experience nosebleeds and hemoptysis, as well as other forms of pain. Since I realized that the calmer I was, the less pain I felt, so I desperately tried to empty my thoughts and maintain my composure, but I couldn’t stand it when the original memory of “me” faded away day by day. However, in order to escape from this terrible place and return to reality, ‘I’ aim at the end of the novel and do not lose hope. Following the plot of the novel, I become the lover of ‘Tae Seong-je’, get abandoned, and attempt s**c*de. For the sake of getting back home.

The title indeed captures the essence, painting a picture of a "depressing illusion." I appreciate the author's handling of the age difference – the main character's youth (20) contrasting with the male lead's (28) – as it addresses a common issue, though some may argue 20 isn't necessarily a kid. The portrayal of sexuality isn't overly romanticized or sexualized, which is a refreshing change from other works.
Many themes resonate, such as the harsh realities of transmigration on mental health and the "yandere" trope in the original character. While I expect a satisfying conclusion with the intended couple, the novel's overall tone serves as a poignant reminder of the unhealthiness of these dynamics in real life. That's where the author's maturity and message truly shine.
This book doesn't bring happiness, but its honest portrayal of these issues makes me appreciate the depth and intention behind it.
Despite these points, I genuinely enjoyed the story. I found reviews that seemed unfair, which prompted me to share my thoughts. The story might be slow at times, but that's part of its charm – it offers realism amidst the fictional narrative. If the story were too over-the-top, it might lose its depth. The novel shines in its portrayal of human complexity, even if it means exploring difficult emotions.
Regarding the MC's health issues, I'm unsure about the specific illnesses causing vomiting, memory loss, and dementia, but it seems like a combination. His short-term memory loss, alcohol consumption, and occasional smoking are mentioned.
Both MC and ML could benefit from therapy. I also hope for the antagonist, Ji-min's stalker, to be dealt with. The MC's genuine concern for Ji-min's well-being is admirable, whereas the antagonist's behavior is despicable, though it's challenging to find words to describe just how terrible he is.
As for the siblings and their girlfriend, I don't have a favorable impression of them. Their portrayal of the MC in a demeaning way is off-putting. Imagine if someone wrote a story about your loved one in such a way – it'd be infuriating.
Overall, I empathize with MC and Ji-min's struggles, though the ML's actions raise questions. The story isn't toxic in my view, and I appreciate the author and translator for their work. I hope the ending is not rushed and that we get a satisfying conclusion. Thank you!
The story revolves around a 19-year-old high school student who finds themselves in a romantic novel, where they fall in love with the male lead (ML), a gangster. Their relationship develops rapidly, but other intriguing supporting characters and plotlines seem to lose focus, leaving readers wondering if the author abandoned these elements.
It's frustrating that significant revelations don't come until late in the story, around chapter 168, and even then, some events lack explanation. For instance, the kidnapping of the MC remains unresolved, leaving readers questioning the motives behind it and the knowledge held by their friend and sibling.
Initially, the MC is likable, but as the narrative shifts heavily towards their fragile health and the intense, unhealthy relationship with the ML, the story becomes overwhelming after more than 200 chapters. The excessive focus on these aspects eventually becomes too much for the reader to bear.
In the end, I decided it was time to let go. Curiosity led me to finish it, hoping for some resolution, but alas, there was no satisfying conclusion. I wouldn't recommend this book to others.
The summary accurately captures the essence. The main character (MC) aims to finish the novel to return to reality, grappling with both the challenges posed by his novelized existence (incompatibility with his new body) and the issues in his real life.
If you're looking for an emotional rollercoaster, this story delivers. The storyline is straightforward, and the protagonist is relatable without being a typical overbearing male lead (non-AHML).
I highly recommend giving this a read; I promise you won't regret it, just remember to have tissues handy. 😭
What I appreciate most is the author's fresh and distinctive approach to the isekai theme. The way the MC remains determined to return home, while grappling with his developing feelings for the ML, is a genuinely touching element. Unlike many isekai stories where characters tend to forget their past lives, this novel incorporates the MC's memories thoughtfully, which elevates the narrative depth. Overall, it's a well-crafted and engaging read.
