I smiled weakly and caressed her face with my bloodied hand leaving a smudge of blood on her otherwise perfectly smooth cheeks. As my feet slowly lost power, I wobbled back slowly and the whole world seems to spin around me as I closed my eyes and felt my body heading straight to the ground.
On the other side, preparations were made as well. One of the monstrosities had his body create a red and white carapace, one that slid out of his skin which began bulging with many grotesque organic tearing sounds, with enlarged forearms and his two eyes grown to the outside of his body, kind of alike to the Tasmanian king crab.
I'm still reeling from the experience of reading this book. The writing is masterful, and the characters are complex and nuanced. However, the pacing felt a bit uneven at times, and some scenes were hard to read due to the graphic content. Overall, I'd recommend this to fans of dark fiction, but be prepared for a intense and emotional ride. 4.5/5 stars
