This Omegaverse twist takes the dominant alpha trope to an extreme, reducing high-ranking Alphas like ML to almost inhuman entities, seen as irresistible forces rather than individuals. The scene where ML loses control during his mating instinct is both amusing and disturbing, as it highlights his ego and disdain for losing control.
In summary, this story does not offer any light or heartwarming moments. The narrative focuses on the protagonist's suffering, and even the positive aspects of ML's actions are shown to be driven more by his own desires than genuine concern for the main character. If a "happily ever after" conclusion comes about, it's likely at a great cost to the main character's well-being. Despite the intense drama and intriguing character development, the ongoing misery is challenging to endure. I'm continuing to read due to its captivating train-wreck-like quality, but it remains uncertain how much longer I can stomach the protagonist's ordeal.
As for the male lead (ML), he stands out from SQC's previous protagonists in his extreme sexism – a stark contrast that makes it clear I won't find the emotional fulfillment I experienced with "Professional Body Double."
The parts with the wife's abuse and subsequent pursuit are, as usual, engaging. In terms of main leads, though, this ML (Main Love Interest) isn't the most despicable – Sissy's ML and the one from 'Years of Intoxication' hold that title. They were scoundrels from the start, whereas this ML started off more normal but his character took a darker turn later on.
If you're a fan of SQC's writing, like myself, this book is definitely worth reading."
Conversely, ML exudes authority, driven by ambition, and displays a strict demeanor. However, when it comes to matters of the heart, he is willing to bend his principles and convictions for the sake of love. His lack of understanding or experience in love has left him vulnerable, struggling to find his footing.
I'm eagerly anticipating how the narrative will unfold, with Qu Moyu desperately pleading for SD's return. "Professional By Double" remains the standout among translations of the 188-series and Chrysanthemum Garden, despite some of the melodramatic elements and angsty moments in the plot. The author does excel in portraying the passionate pursuit of the male lead towards the female protagonist.
The author consistently employs a recurring theme in their work, featuring elements like an overpowering or possessive male lead (ML), a protagonist facing challenges with privilege or financial/familial issues, a love-hate relationship, focus on the wife chase, and dramatic redemption arcs often involving assault, harassment, kidnapping, and even rape, followed by tearful emotional journeys. Though I personally prefer a more straightforward resolution, these elements are common in their narratives.
While the story may not offer anything groundbreaking, the author's storytelling style keeps readers engaged, as evidenced by my personal experience with their other titles like "Years of Intoxication," "Professional Body Double," and others (names not recalled). The new aspect in this particular book is the introduction of an alien setting, along with mpreg and childcare, which adds a fresh twist.
In terms of the story progression, it begins with a contract relationship, flashback scenes hinting at their initial attraction, the ML's gradual transformation into a selfish partner, and a period of fluffy moments followed by a more intense conflict. The narrative then involves forced imprinting, pregnancy, and attempts to remove the child, leading to the MC escaping with the ML's mother and concealing the pregnancy. A time skip occurs, where the ML discovers the truth and experiences regret, eventually tracking down the MC.
Further developments include the MC's return to the city, confrontations, the ML's family acceptance of the child, and the ML's ongoing struggle with regret and attempts to reconcile. Notably, YanMingxiu from "Professional Body Double" makes a cameo as a S-class Alpha shareholder.
For fans of dog blood stories, love-hate dynamics, and childcare themes, this novel seems to cater well to their preferences.
