Girls Saurus... This mangaka must have a terrible sense of naming by attempting to combine "Girls" and "Dinosaurs," as it has absolutely nothing to do with the plot. Instead, this Ecchi, Harem, Romantic Comedy presents a story that some might enjoy while others may find it annoying.

We've all faced fears in life, and some may have even developed phobias. However, Shingo Chiryuu is the unfortunate individual who experienced such a traumatic event that led to his fear of girls. Now, all he truly desires is to overcome his girl phobia because the fear of staying a virgin is the most terrifying thought for any teenage boy.

As absurd as it may sound, I believe Shingo's phobia fits the situation, given what he went through. Nevertheless, this manga handles things terribly. To help alleviate his fears, the school nurse enrolls him into an ambiguous club filled with girls, yet nothing positive results from it. Sure, it's meant for comic relief, but comedy without purpose yields unfunny jokes. Perhaps if this was the only issue with the story, this manga could be great. Like most other Rom/Coms, Girls Saurus follows a very basic structure. Each chapter has its own simple scenario or dilemma, and once it concludes, it moves on to the next with little to no progression in between.

The same applies to our male protagonist, Shingo, who rarely makes any progress in overcoming his fears. As a guy, I lost respect for him, yet he does provide some hilarious moments. As for the girls, they're all just too strange and unrealistic that it's natural to focus on the weirdness of their actions rather than the joke behind them. At least they each get their good moments, but many of those moments are fanservice-related.

The artwork of this manga helps produce some decent fanservice, but that's all it's good for. The scenery/backdrops in the panels are often replaced by some tacky effects, and the character designs are rather unappealing. I guess it works in its favor occasionally, like that grotesque-looking girl in the second volume.

Overall, Girl Saurus is a mixed bag of laughs and annoyances. The laughs come from the few actually funny situations the protagonist finds himself in, while constantly being surrounded by bi- *ahem* girls proves to be the biggest annoyance. Sure, this is a harem romance, but romance without development is pointless. For some reason, this manga just ends... no buildup or conclusion whatsoever, but at least there's a continuation of the story in DX. With all that said, you might be wondering if this manga is worth checking out. Well, if you're fond of your typical romantic comedy, then sure, since it's the kind of thing that can be finished in one sitting.

This is surprisingly good. The story is definitely a first for me since the lead guy originally liked girls but developed a phobia of them after a near-death experience with the female lead (who was then overweight) and became dangerously emotional after being rejected. Okay, so a guy with multiple girls chasing him isn't anything new, and the fact that he isn't fond of them either is somewhat typical for a shounen manga. Imagine every day as hell for him since he's unintentionally part of the all-girls boxing club. It's funny every time he tries to avoid the girls and ends up in compromising situations, making him misunderstood by them.

And the club includes the formerly overweight girl who nearly killed him and is the only one who knows about his phobia. So she might be understanding, seeing as it's her fault why Chiryu now fears women, but because it's HER, Chiryu avoids her the most, which makes her angry because after all that has happened, she still likes him.

Whew, got carried away there. >_>

What makes this manga really worth reading are the characters. Their personalities clash, creating mayhem for Chiryu.

    The art is awesome. ^_^
