During Zora's initial sickness during pregnancy, Ezrah was occupied with his first love, Piper. When tragedy struck and Zora needed him after a car accident, he untruthfully informed her he was busy, actually shopping for shoes for Piper. The loss of their unborn child due to the accident was a devastating blow. Throughout her hospital stay, Ezrah's absence only confirmed what she already suspected – his lack of love for her. Upon Zora's discharge, she returned home to a changed scene. Standing at the top of the stairs, her once warm demeanor now icy, she confronted Ezrah with a cold announcement: "Good news, Ezrah. Our baby didn't survive the accident. Since there's nothing left between us, let's go ahead and get a divorce." This man, who had previously shown no emotion towards Zora, had now been asked for a divorce twice, and his reaction was immediate panic.
