" Then gets to 500 and is a newbie again, to 1000 and is a newbie again. Stuff happens, gets to 1500. Is a newbie again. Besides the first "arc" of the novel where he starts as a newbie, he doesn't make any relevant connection with people. Doesn't talk to anyone most of the time. And the pass of time just becomes irrelevant as he "spends 100 years killing monsters" or whatever.
