Except nothing lasts. Time kills, time drains and time steals. You will be nothing with or without time.
But the one thing that ignores time is power. It doesn't matter where it comes from, even if you get it from the Devil. Nothing in the world can take your power away from you, and it doesn't expire. So when I had nothing to lose, I thought why not. Why don't I bargain everything? Everything in exchange for that something called power.
