"Brother, have mercy on me!" Sera pleaded, kneeling down and lowering her head in a desperate attempt to convey her sincerity. But her brother, Xander, remained cold and unyielding, his gaze unflinching. "Traitors have no quarter, Sera. Remember our family's creed? You betrayed us, and now there's no forgiveness," he said, his voice laced with scorn and disappointment. "I swear I had nothing to do with it! I didn't even recognize the Duchess!" Sera cried out, her desperation palpable, but her family's accusations fell on deaf ears. "It's our fault for believing in the prophecy. You've only brought sorrow upon us," her father growled, his anger echoing in the room. Throughout her life, all Sera had ever yearned for was acceptance and a sense of belonging. It seemed an impossible dream now. "I wish I'd never been born," she whispered softly. Suddenly, a sharp jolt startled her. "Sera!" she heard her mother's voice, followed by a wave of confusion. She opened her eyes to find herself back in her childhood bedroom, touching her neck in disbelief as she realized she wasn't dead. "What just happened?" she thought, bewildered by the turn of events that had sent her back to her ten-year-old self.
