Veran was born to die. A child emerging into the world without the willpower to live, without the willpower to even cry. The boy was stillborn. After numerous attempts to recesitiate him, the healers declared his death, only minutes after birth. His mother was stained in tears, holding the unmoving child in her arms and begging him to cry, to yell, to react, to do anything.
One healer remained to watch the mother in despair as she helplessly held her dead child. Shaking his head, he too turned to leave the woman alone. There would be no miracles today, not in a world like this.
