I don't get why you think the jokes don't work in the anime. For the age problem, i can't remember where you see they changed it (which episode, what situation...), but i agree changing things to fit "rules of society" or bullshit like this is wasting original content.

For example, in the manga Nana to Kaoru, at first she is under 18 in tome 1, but when translated by publisher for my country, they said she's 18. This kind of thing really annoys me, so i mostly agree with you.

But i discovered Grand Blue with the anime, and continued with the manga, so i can't really understand why you don't like it. For me both are great.

Backstory too long. Chapters too short. When do we actually move on with the story.
