    his wife lowkey ruined this novel for me.
    It'd be one thing if they had some interesting chemistry- but they don't, she's staler than piece of wet fucking bread in the gutter. It feels unnatural and forced and the whole thing is just incredibly uncomfortable.

    With the way Lyla seems to imprint on Doug more over time, I wonder if we may reach a conflict where Doug runs into trouble with the principal cuz Lyla wants to be him. Maybe a crazy reveal warrants taking Lyla from the principal? Maybe Leo antics result in principal dying and them adopting Lyla?

    Regardless, I'm curious to see how the Lyla subplot will grow.
