well for these kind of stories yea they should have some trauma to keep them moving and to grow as a person. That has been a literary tool since the beginning. I mean its an overused one sure but doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be used. I think its fitting to make him accept his power and the meaning of having such power. And it does further the plot as a hero with no trauma doing heroic deeds is boring. Imagine spiderman and uncle ben to kind of clarify the need for heros to experience traumatic events to learn and grow.
