If you're curious if you like it or not, why not just read till chapter 21? Maybe you'll like it. 🤷
Please take note that I haven't read the novel, so I truly have no idea about the spoiler. This is purely based on my experience of reading the manhwa for 20 chapters.
I rarely judge quickly on manhwa and made a review about it just based on 20 early chapters. But I'm gonna make a special case for this one. This manhwa had a good premise.... but the whole premise shattered into billion pieces of disaster and utterly incomprehensible plot building. I once read the promo manhwa a long time ago, and the promo was just promo, it only gave quick snippets of the story so I cannot dive into the emotional building on the plot. and the manhwa came out for real, with fantastic illustration, who will resist reading it? And then I read it. Oh, the premise was good: the girl who was turned into a living sword for the prosperity of the empire... but after the first chapter, the premise fell out quickly. It was purely a story of riding a mary-sue c*ck.
The main characters are the bandwagon of mary-sue ness. Actually, it's okay for a character to have some mary-sue aspects, but this story was so blatantly proud of being so mary-sue that I felt becoming more and more apathetic to the miserable Charlize Ronan. For a character with 400 years of history, I applaud her for not ever having a shift of morality or mindset. Yes, she had, but it wasn't on an equal level of someone 400+ years old. Her shift of morality and mindset of being tortured etc felt like a shift of mindset a teenager had come out of the teenage phase. And her narration didn't help in sculpting her characterization that supposed to be the no.1 miserable creature of the century. Her narration purely narcissistic, she was so self-aware of how OP and great she is.
Also, don't get me on the points where her character is so over buffed:
Am I supposed to feel sorry for her? with all of those qualities I'm pretty sure she didn't need to waste time on revenge, just destroy the empire quick and clean.
And then we came into the main plot... oh boy, plot holes are unavoidable... but this story was very direct at telling you to not use logic. Becoming a tutor of a prince... who only had one year gap. I don't think any weak kingdom ever existed would so blatant on being nonsense when it came to prince's education. Surely she made the status of an honorary knight but she was still young and she wasn't proven to be eligible enough to be a tutor. I got a headache because I accidentally using logic when reading the plot build up.
Okay, let's scrap up the confusing build-up, let's jump on the ML. In short, it doesn't get better. The ML is as gary-stu as the FL. I give up. Both of the characters had a flaw and the author milked it to her content. Their mary-sue aspects are justified to the core, and the plot is moved according to their own benefits.
The positive note that I have for this manhwa? The author had a good premise but only with that, it's not enough. I get the idea of the author's points, but she was awful at building it. Also, great illustration.
