Superhuman Era is a superhero story with an international cast and global stakes. Ostensibly the protagonist is Kang Lim aka White Cap, but in terms of screentime there isn't one particular protagonist; lots of superhumans and even some antagonists receive their respective screentimes. The narrative often jumps around between multiple concurrent conflicts at once, which is fair enough.
Unfortunately at some point the cast expands way past the artist's ability to support it, which slows down the pacing to a crawl and also means that characters you like (like the ostensible protagonist Kang Lim) might not appear for dozens of chapters. Also there are several arcs (e.g. the arc ending in c182) that take a long while but end in disappointing conclusions which are little more than setups for later. This exacerbates the already very slow pacing.
Ultimately I did enjoy much of the story, but reaching the current end (c187) left a bad taste in my mouth: I realized the story was nowhere near done, and that it might furthermore not get finished due to the author's health issues.
Best manhwa i ever read
Shonen jump hero in a poorly written horror world
The MC is a very stereotypical Shonen Jump type character (OP, innocent, glutton whose dumber than wood), but they exist in a horror world where mysterious monsters appear with OP strength and abilities. These monsters single-mindedly murder humans, mostly through brute force.
I feel like the premise had good bones, but instead it was written to just rely on tropes, a$$-pulls and flashy scenes. If you're looking for some simple-minded super hero action, you might enjoy this. There isn't much real plot to it, but it's enjoyable in a "don't-think-too-much-about-it" sort of way.
The artistic style is definitely a little controversial. You'll probably either love it or hate it. The creator has an immense talent for making most characters extremely ugly, and at times, disconcerting. It gives the series an interesting feel in that you don't get the super generic "manga"-y drawings and you can't eyeball who's good/bad based on looks.
A few gripes though... I personally felt that it read like the author was just making things up as they went along. This may be why there isn't really much world-building. Also, relationships seem to come into existence out of nowhere when convenient, and then characters are basically forgotten about. In fact, I just couldn't really enjoy this because it felt like there wasn't actually a story behind the story.
I really enjoy this story. It starts fast and is told in a way that could easily translate to a television show or movie. The only thing that might not be everyone's cup of tea is the art. At first, I had to get used to the art because it's so different from most other mangas and manhwas. Not everyone is a super model and some people look legitimately very strange, but don't let that turn you off from the story.
This kinda has a street fighter vibe, all these lone wolf types converging by fates sake. Great action scenes and plenty of lot twists along the way. The author is pacing very well and giving us details of the strong characters. Second season looks to be more world building than the first which I think is the best path to grow the story. The villains are still very mysterious as origins go, the why is still missing for their motivations. Not mad at that, I hope it get revealed as the arch progresses. Take the leap into the super human era, you won’t be disappointed.
This is already well received in Korea but fairly unknown overseas. This is a very good series that I think will explode in popularity here with due time. Good story, characters have a lot of depth, and the fight scenes oh lord it's juicy eye candy. Seems like it will take awhile for full english translation to hit, but damn it's worth it.
