about this manhwa, i really wanted to like it, but somehow the main character just doesn't do it for me. i've read till around chapter 52, and she's never done anything that makes me actively root for her.
Everything she's done all along was just 'reasonable'. She's cute when the story and surroundings call for it, but not really much else –– the only adjectives that come to mind are 'capable' and 'reasonable'. Of course, you want to root for her, but that's because she's suffered numerous injustices, and the other characters apart from the male lead and potential love rival or whatever are made out to be insufferable and unlikeable. That being said, they're still more interesting to read about because they all have some form of a driving force ( for instance, Rashta wants power to protect herself and become independent, aside from wanting the emperor's affection, which still gives us more of an idea about her character than anything we've gotten from Navier).
Navier, our titular empress, has done nothing for me to like her. She seeks justice for herself, she fights back when Rashta tries pulling off things above her pay grade, she helps her friends and acquaintances who have been wronged. In theory, these are all good traits and should be enough for anyone to like her, but she's so cold and emotionless during the ordeals– we don't see her displaying much emotion or thinking to herself about these things, it's just so cold and you don't look forward to her scenes at all. She has a past of loving the emperor, which could have been explored more and played with but no, she quickly moves past that and does not let it show nor does she communicate directly with the emperor (again, reasonable given her position, but for god's sake do something interesting for once)
The male lead falls for her at the drop of a hat, which is fine, shoujo love interests have fallen for less, but that just makes it all the more boring because all the empress does is smartly subtly turn him down (again, reasonable). If she had fallen first, that could have made for an interesting story where she has an internal conflict (but she's just too capable for that isn't she). For the record, he's a ridiculously boring overused character archetype as well.
At the beginning of the story, we're given a scene showing us that the emperor demands a divorce, in response to which the empress agrees on the condition that she is allowed to remarry. It's been made clear that this entire story will probably consist of the incidents that led up to this point. The title implies that the story would be about an already remarried empress, or perhaps on the route of remarriage. In truth, she's far from a divorce, after which her immediate remarriage will probably be the end of the story. I feel more cheated than she lets on.
FL is the epitome of beauty, brains, and elegance. She's an Empress through and through. The emperor, however, is a walking, breathing t r a s h who cares more about his d*ck and ego than the reputation of his kingdom or his very capable wife.
So far, the plot is mostly: FL fights with thot, emperor defends thot, FL defeats thot (or both of them) with wit and grace. Rinse and repeat. It was fun to read at first, but 48 chapters later ain't nothing had changed so I noped the f*ck out🏃
I'll pick this up again when the manhwa gets to 100 chapters or something.
P.S. The translators' top tier memes helped keep my blood pressure from exploding. Bless them.
I really really love this, I read the novel till cahpter 115 years ago but I forgot the whole storyline and plot. That's how forgettable it is.
I love this but I decided that I'll not continue this (maybe I'll change my mind in the future), but for now I stopped. I love Navier and Heinry but that trashta is really a jerk and a b****.
I wanted to read continue and reread it just for the sake of Navier and Heinry. But trashta is too much for me to handle, seeing her face a little made my head boil. Read her name a little made my head boils like crazy, I'm talking about her right now made me want to puke.
I'm sorry author, your story deserves a 10 but because of the overwhelmingly disgusting personality of trashta I can't handle it anymore. I'm sorry, her disgusting aura is overwhelming. I can't bear with it. Even though I want to read the divorce part so freaking bad! I can't wait any longer and hold myself in because of that trash.
Good job at making a character that I'm so mad of! This is a first. The first time a character made my head boils like crazy, my veins popping, my fist trying to calm down so I'll not destroy my phone, me wanna puke, and so on.
Starting with a flash-forward can be a very powerful tool if used correctly. In this story, however, it feels more like a carrot getting dangled in front of a horse - an empty promise to readers that it will eventually get better. But I shouldn't need a promise like that to read a story. And as it is now (~45 chapters in) she is still dealing with pretty much the same stuff as in the first few chapters and her divorce is not in sight. A couple of chapters of suffering to built sympathy with the MC are fine, more if the genre is Psychological but I don't need 50 chapters of pity porn.
The memes of the translators make this worth reading though, and I will continue sticking with it because I do want to see the MC get the happiness she deserves, so I guess the carrot is doing its job after all.
It’s not perfect, but the heroine is refreshing and not annoying. The villainess is definitely very hatable and I am enjoying the ride to her inevitable downfall. It moves slowly but I am enjoying it.
The description made me very interested in the story. Why? because everything made sense from each's character point of view and agenda, that alone was very promising. Unfortunately the description is completely wrong. She has not been particularly capable, ain't regent, ain't "a masterful administrator", just a capable one and she isn't perfect either (at least the manhwa doesn't show any of those), how she let's herself be trampled by a mere uneducated slave is enough proof of that, thou regal, she's not that magnificent. Likewise there has been no clue as to why the Emperor suddenly becomes an idiot and a puppet, he antagonizes the Empress and therefore her entire household (oldest and most powerful nobles of the empire apparently, cradle of countless Empresses) and risks political strife, for what? getting laid? getting pampered by a beauty? So the Emperor ain't capable either, he's incompetent and blind. And this wish mentioned, the desiring for a wife instead of a college and the conflict with the Empress threatening the Emperor's authority also doesn't appear in the manhwa.
Most of all, after the 1st ch. I feel conned... 30+ chs in the story hasn't even started... since the event in which she announces she's going to remarry to the neighboring Prince in ch 1, the story went to the past and it's all about the FL having to put up with unreasonable demands from a clown emperor and a slave->Citizen->Concubine->future Empress (in a record time of a few month to boot). Needless to say, this is nothing but annoying. It would have been better to either not show that scene at the start or just rush this first part. Worse still, according to the person below there is a looong way till the story reaches that initial scene... I think many people are like me and wanted to read the story of the remarried princess, not the story of why she got remarried and all the crap she had to put up with.
Oh and it's riddled with inconsistencies and incoherencies... figures. For example, people entering the royal palace as they please.
By the way, are they King-Queen or Emperor-Empress? I'm a bit confused there (thou this is most likely a TL problem).
I'm dropping this, may try again when the story gets to that start point. Seems around chapter 80 is that milestone.
PD: there is magic, so it would have been interesting if the slave had actually been sent by the neighboring prince to cast a charm spell on the Emperor, make him dump the Empress and get the Empress for himself. What a wasted opportunity.
PD2: The best thing about this manhwa are actually the jokes made by Rumpi with Potato at the end of each chapter, hilarious.
The story is so very great, The art and flow is just masterfully done. One warning though, if you don't want to be completely frustrated by her staying married to the dumb emperor, wait until chapter 83 is out.
read the first few chapters and it's achingly good. There is a major THOT but other than that, gotta love our MC empress
