As something of a counter-argument, I have just come back from doing exactly that. I gave the manga a year to build up content and hopefully at least hit a stride of sorts in this arc. The issue with this arc is that there is simply TOO MUCH that requires elaboration. Having a dozen or so squads that all have to establish new dynamics, have different approaches, and have not fully developed outside of the arc characters means that in a years worth of chapters we got 2 out of 3 battles further into a single assignment in a test that will likely have at least two more major events in it. The concept of the arc itself isn't that bad honestly, but it required more setup before going into it or to intentionally omit a LOT more information from the reader to make it do more than crawl to the finish on broken legs.
