Within the protective walls, children are nurtured in a nursery-like environment by robots. Though life inside may seem monotonous, the kids are brimming with potential and curiosity. In many respects, it feels like a slice of paradise.
The world beyond is a nightmarish landscape. It has almost completely abandoned all things mechanical and is now home to strange, powerful supernatural entities.
Maru, assisted by Kiruko, traverses the ruins of what was once Tokyo, searching for this paradise. But after such a long search, heaven might be more of an unattainable dream than a possible reality.
