Nanashima's high school baseball team fell short of reaching Koshien by just one heartbreaking game during his second year. Now, as a third-year student and the team captain, he realizes that this year's team is nowhere near as strong as the previous one. The star players from last year have graduated, leaving Nanashima with a group of unskilled and, more importantly, unmotivated teammates who have no chance of making it to Koshien. That’s when Toku-san, an elderly man in the neighborhood who has attended every practice and game the school has played over the past few decades, secretly entrusts Nanashima with 10 million yen. Toku-san hopes Nanashima will use the money however he sees fit to ensure the team reaches Koshien. However, such a large and untraceable sum is a significant responsibility for a high school student, and even a well-intentioned teenager like Nanashima might be tempted to misuse it.
the ending makes perfect sense. Border between life and death (borderlands) also it would make sense how others survived their injuries while others did, it mostly depended on their will to live here. also the parallels between alice in wonderland too make it better. the title and the ending match up together, the ending was 100% perfect
