What's the fastest way to tell how shitty a story is? If it introduces 7+ different women of relatively unique features with important roles within 12 chapters. Those women could be consolidated into 3 women and the story would be so much better for it.
Another shitty sign is if the MC does not have any close male friends. In fact, the absolute easiest clue? If MC does NOT have good looking male friends who are strong in their own ways. Yep. He'd feel too threatened.
Notice how a lot of these MCs always have a gaggle of gorgeous women following their every move while their best male friends are almost always barely talented and ugly as fuck? Yeah, we see you author. We can see your secret fantasies of being singularly adored by the (female) masses where no other man is as charismatic and overpowered as you...I mean, your self-insert Original Character.
This isn't a male vs female thing. This happens in stories aimed at women, too. The girl is always the most beautiful, the smartest and the baddest with a whole battalian of beautiful men slavishly willing to do anything for her while her besties are plain or always being cheated or are not as intelligent as she is. Can't have another woman take the spotlight from her!
And, yeah, it's equally as eye rolling there as it is here.
If this story fixed these few points it might be elevated somewhat from forgettable to slightly less forgettable.
