So is this just gonna be a series of how Aoba keeps getting screwed over at every turn? I get that the game industry is rough, but for this story it really feels like this plot thread is being repeating a bit too much. I'd rather this arc be about them trying to maintain the FS name, not have Aoba potentially getting screwed over again

definitely not a past earth. but theres definitely something weird going on. the fact that his "soul" and the ID went into that world at different times suggests something either manipulated time during the transition from one world to the next or possibly the flow of time itself varies in between the borders of the worlds. either way i think something pulled his soul  into that world and i'm really curious if the story will solve that question.
