This suffers from the "we didnt talk about the very small and simple thing that any normal person would talk about, so the very small and simple thing became a problem somehow" disease. she could just say" hey ma, im gonna make something with these sticks, leave them where they are", and her mother, SHOCKED by this UNBELIEVABLE request would say "sure". many authors do this, and only thing it achieves is making the characters look incredibly stupid and unrealistic. I hate it as much as i hate how little this worlds technological level makes sense.
