In terms of storytelling, Red Cat Ramen is up there with my gold standard for restaurant Slice-of-Life: Midnight Diner. It's all about its characters... albeit a lot more lighthearted. It's so human you just forget people are interacting with talking cats. You care for supporting characters and their lives.
Very talented mangaka and very underrated manga. I always look forward to a new chapter.
Goro is slowly learning that even though Pow is sensitive he has his own way of still being strong and supporting her even when she wants to cry sometimes. It really is nice to see how nuanced their relationship is. She has doubts like about the baby and feeling like she needs to be the one to be strong to compliment Pow's nature, but is quickly reassured about their relationship just off of how strong it is from where they started and how its grown.
The best part of this series is that these guys act like humans and teenagers. they become jealous, they don't understand their feeling, they fuck up a lot of things, they make mistakes, and they often act like assholes when under extreme pressure and mental trauma. The character feel authentic and for the protag not to have all the answers is an amazing way to show that they have room to grow and that no person is perfect about any philosophy ever. The part that makes this good as a story arc is that after falling to his lowest point and finding the smallest piece of himself that was pure he then made progress as a character, that he doesn't have to face his huge problems alone and that he realizes he sucks today means that he can improve tommorow and it reflects in his skills. y'all hate on a lot of this story without seeing that his asshole-ishness is just a part of a character arc.
