Respect for him for admitting he goofed it up last confession and how he appreciates her standing with him but where is her apology for being boaderline selfish and only caring for his best efforts but not when he is in a difficult place?

I... hate this so much. I really lack the words to fully describe it. It's like the author just reaches into a bag of tropes and throws whatever he wants into the story without any regard for decency, like a grubby child smearing his face with chocolate. A fat kid in glasses shivering in fear on the battlefield gains his courage when his commander delivers a speech... why would a fat kid in glasses even be IN the "ELITE BATTALLION" to begin with?? Answer: So the author can have that scene. Doesn't matter than the speech is 5 seconds of nonsense, doesn't matter that the character is a 1-dimensional cutout of an idea (brainless guy => high potential?? profit!). It's just this over, and over, and over. Bizarre childish circumstances that are thrown in for glurge appeal so we can all go "dawww the main character/his buddies are so wholesome and everyone else is so STUPID!"
