I understand they were trying to do some sort of character fake out, but I'm sure they could have made the MC's transition to psychopath better. He just kills a bunch of cats and then he's a heartless murderer. It feels disjointed.

The most similar I've come is probably Ajin. Doesn't have the humour but the tone of the manga, the action, and cool calm characters really reminded me of Fable.
