When Kubo sits next to Shiraishi during their first year of high school, Shiraishi's previously nonexistent social skills receive a significant boost. Speaking up in class marks only the beginning for Shiraishi. Soon, Kubo pushes him to gain attention at school, at the bookstore, and all around town. Shiraishi's once lackluster life starts to become much more vibrant.
