The suit look didnt bother me as much as others, but then when the new cringe character got introduced thats preety much "friendship is magic" love triangle and he recieves the same "power" as the MC , thats when it will probably go downhill fast.
There is no reason to do this in any story as a writer, if you have not built up that secondary character as a supporting branch for the mc. We are already 20 chapters in.

This is only after he was... beaten, twisted, torn in half, and seeing a technique that he didn't develop himself but is compatible with him, and... he doesn't even have the main ability most Eskeletons have.
Normally I would say BS like you, but it isn't like he just got his powers and is the most badass mofo out there, he experimented with his powers and after seeing a new way that goes with his thinking, he adapted quickly, it can happen.
Not like everything has to follow common sense with supernatural powers.
