    FLCL is fooly cooly which is a really good short anime series like 4 episodes iirc. Shia doesnt want our MC to watch it probably because while its also a coming of age story it has a high school girl use the MC (also in middle school) in that series to fill the gap of loneliess from his older brother leaving their town in a sort of but not really a relationship.

    Also highly recommend watching FLCL because it's a classic
