    The thing is that spending money for equipment isn't as helpful compared to spending it on supplies for his gadgets and traps. I think the LN goes into more detail, but basically since he can one shot a goblin with a shoddy club he steals from them, there's no need to have a magic sword to also do the same thing with slightly less effort. If you're fighting something with say, 10hp, it doesn't matter if your weapon does 10 or 100 damage. On the other hand, if he buys something like a gate scroll or explosives, he can destroy an entire goblin nest in one go. His idea of being more efficient is to make it easier to kill a bunch of goblins, not make it easier to kill each goblin individually.
