So Melie learning to control would go a bit far from the rules of the story, but based on what she said some chapters back about how Seth has been able to bring her back, maybe he becomes a keystone for her to deal with it. Melie's infection does seem to direct her mental and emotional focus into a person, that much I can say, now I want to understand the rules of her "personality" change why this "default" state came back and why she seemed to take her "new" personality after her sister.
Bern is a waste of potential and character writing. So far I like most of the characters, even the antagonists no single person is driven mad by some unknown drive. Everyone, everything has reasons. Titles, personality, traits. But bern, a supposedly "perfect" saintess with no flaws is flawed in the worse ways possible. She's useless when she needs to be, her whole shtick is that she can control every situation to her liking. Because of her power, meaning if the people she controls are weak. She's weak, but no she just stands there like an idiot not even trying to command those that listen to her. Just watches them die, pretty dumb to be honest
