Boundless Ascension offers a solid experience for Manhwa Enthusiasts, with a story deserving a 7.5/10 and impressive artwork rated at 8.5/10. The Protagonist, Seong-yun Han, stands out as an exceptionally Powerful Challenger within the Tower, far surpassing others at his level.
However, One Notable Drawback appears in Chapters 110-112, where the narrative falters. The author seems to rely on forced plot devices, such as power restrictions, to create tension and allow Seong-yun to face challengers significantly weaker than him. This undermines the flow of the story and feels like an unnecessary limitation for such a Strong Protagonist.
Overall, while Boundless Ascension excels in many aspects, the reliance on forced conflicts in certain arcs detracts slightly from its appeal.
[ Review as of 24 November 2024 ]The story was never good since the beginning, but at least it was enjoyable, now in the recent 20 chapter they start dropping slop after slop like how can you lost direction and fuck up this bad, the MC is a walking plot armor, the characters are shallow as a puddle, the plot itself doesn't know where to go, it's a clown show.
The manhwa became like when you play gta v with infinite life, you have fun clashing with military but after repeating it couple of times you'll start to feel bored with it, cuz there's no real danger you just stood there.
The protagonist does technically have the necromancer class, but he does not summon undead armies. The extent of his 'necromancy' is absorbing stats from defeated foes. His actual combat style is closer to that of a melee combatant with a few murim elements than that of a minion master. So, don't come into this expecting a traditional necromancer.
If you can get past that, and read this as a mix of murim, dungeon, and tower climbing genres then this is actually pretty good.
At first when I seen necromancer in the title I thought this would become another Solo Leveling ripoff....NOPE. If I could find similarities with this it would mainly be with Leveling with the Gods x Legend of The Northern Blade. Despite the comparison this series has a uniqueness that is definitely original. Also this protagonist is no punk so cool.
It's a nice read of you like this kind of manhwa, but don't care if the world building is lacking as long as it's fun to read.
A mix of Solo Levelling, Tutoriel is too hard and Seoul's Station Necromancer (but only the vibes for now).
I would usually agree with liquidsin, but more than half the abilities he gains are from rewards, not from his skill steal's skill from the necromancer unique trait. So it's ok.
Edit.
I have to add, now that the story has advanced a bit, that in the title : "boundless" is ok, but the "necromancer" part is more than secondary.
Main character has sloppy personal motivation.
Sloppily deals with overly-arrogant characters.
Tower functions never properly explained, hardly mentioned to have a sloppy excuse ready.
The tower is shown to have will only once, as a sloppy excuse to give a special opportunity.
Sloppy power explanation- numbered storage when there's absorption, since limit doesn't seem to matter.
Given seemingly unrelated skills by the tower at random intervals.
Randomly 'figures out' the details without any hints or thinking.
Gets skills from monsters, however since the monsters aren't shown using them, it feels completely random.
Feels like a low-effort rip-off on the entire 'awakened power' genre.
This quote is a death sentence to any series. 12 chapters in and the MC already has:
