Personal experience, especially a second-hand info of that experience in your case cannot make a statement about how bad or good a circumstance is. In any culture outside of the modern countries like europe both parties would have no chance to abort, would be shunned and ostracized even by family members, and most likely owuld have to shoulder that burden for the rest o their life.
Mind you, even 16-17 aged teens are still children. They have little to no idea of how world or relationships work. Hell, they don't even have an idea of what works for them. The tragedy of teenage pregnancy is the forceful seizing of that discovery and their life, be it man or woman, though latter is always affected more.
